States such as texas, arizona and florida are on the brink of apocalyptic levels in his views. Still, the president who should be leading in this pandemic continues his pattern of deliberately down playing it. A recap. Looks like by april, you know, in theory when it gets a little warmer, miraculously it goes away. Its going to disappear, one day like a miracle it will disappear. Its going to go away. This is going to go away. Eventually, its going to be gone. Its going away and i think well be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point thats going to sort of just disappear, i hope. Well, inside the white house, top aides are now debating whether the president should shift back to focusing on this pandemic or stay focused on his hopes for the economy. Just this morning, some good news for the country. We learned that the economy added 4. 8 million jobs in june. Lets go straight to Christine Romans. Christine, these are good numbers. They are somewhat backward looking. P
Emergency use authorization could happen within hours. Millions of doses of this vaccine are already ready to go. This as we learn that a Second Health care worker has now reacted to pfizers vaccine. We should be clear, many thousands of people have taken this safely, many tens of thousands took it safely during the trials without effect. But we are going to of course bring you all the information we have. This as america sees its deadliest single day from coronavirus, 3,656 people died yesterday. That is two deaths every minute. Hospitalizations and new infections also hit their highest single day totals ever in this pandemic and the sad fact is that holiday gatherings are expected to make those numbers worse. Thats right. Also this morning we have news that the Vice President that president elect biden will not get the vaccine until next week. Weve also learned this morning that french president emanuel macron has tested positive for the virus. Vice president mike pence says he will
Other side. That reality check from some of the most affected states is happening as the cdc director warns we should expect a second wave of Coronavirus Infections in the fall. And another one perhaps even sooner, that is if the reopening is done too quickly. Also, dr. Anthony fauci says that new cases, and this is good news, are flattening across the country, showing that social distancing measures are working. But the numbers still shocking. Yesterday, 2129 americans died of this disease. Lets begin this hour with our correspondent dan simon in san francisco. I just really, hearing from Governor Newsom got my head around what the future holds in a new normal. Thats right, poppy. I think were all sort of managing through this crisis day by day, and havent really thought, you know, too deeply about what things are going to look like a few month from now. What the governor is doing is managing expectations for what you can expect once society, once the economy opens up. And what he is
Flattening as moving to other parts of the country. All this adding to fears that reopening will actually backfire, not just in terms of the outbreak but also in terms of economic damage. And were learning more about when the very first wave of this outbreak may have started, a new study finding that its been mutating and circulating only since late last year. For more on what the study means, dr. Sanjay gupta joins us now. Now, this is one study. I know, sanjay, whenever we talk about this, i say were learning so much about this, really every day. But the key finding here seems to be that this would be only about 10 of the population so far has been exposed. What does that mean Going Forward . Well, you know, its hard to really pinpoint these numbers in terms of exposures. In part because you need to have more robust testing to really know that, but i think the larger point is that its still a smaller number than what people would think they would need for whats called herd immunity.
