The Daily Dispatch has put out its annual call for preloved literacy, collecting anything from fiction to children’s stories, to be donated to relevant 2023 Local Hero winners on World Read Aloud Day in February 2024.

Daily Dispatch readers are invited to nominate individuals from their communities, who go above and beyond to positively impact the lives of the less fortunate through outreach activities, for a chance to be crowned this year’s local heroes.

Local Hero nominee Ziyanda Xaso, 44, from Amalinda, left her prominent career in the finance industry to focus on community upliftment and now runs the Jika Uluntu Community Centre NPO on the N2 near the Gonubie Farmers Hall.
