Dead, retired govt employees avail ration in Garhwa | Ranchi News

GARHWA: In Banshidhar Nagar sub-division of Garhwa district, government pensioners and the deceased were ‘availing’ ration through the public distribution system (PDS). For instance, Santosh Bandhari from Koljhiki panchayat, who had died years ago, was allegedly procuring ration meant for BPL people from PDS dealer Arti Mahila Vikas Samiti. Similarly, Sudarshan Ram, a government pensioner, was drawing ration meant for the underprivileged. Savita Devi, the mukhiya of Koljhiki panchayat, said, “There are several such cases. The deserving persons are being ignored and the well-off are being provided ration by PDS dealers.” A local PDS dealer, Vinod Chandravanshi, said: “Such cases wherein the rich are getting PDS benefits have come to light in a number of places.”

Picture used for representational purpose only RANCHI: Almost 11 months after the lockdown was announced to curb the spread of Covid-19, Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) has decided to resume offline classes in a phased manner in the coming days, a university official said. Professor Manoj Kumar said physical classes on the university campus were already taking place for experiment-oriented research works and the university has decided to open its hostel for research scholars from February 15. He said, “We will monitor the situation for some time and, if the Covid situation is conducive, resume offline practical classes for other post-graduate students. The classes will be operated as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines issued recently. As of now, white-washing and sanitization of the university building is in progress.”

A critically injured Chandan Kumar Roy alias Chandan Prasun is currently admitted at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi. “Sand trader Ankit Minj has been detained after Roy accused him of firing shots at him,” officer in-charge of sadar police station Dayanand Kumar said, adding, “Rivalry over sand trade seems to be reason behind the firing but we are investigating from every angle.” Roy is a resident of Officers Colony in Simdega. A small-time contractor who is involved in the sand supply business, Roy is the nagar pramukh of Shiv Sena party in Simdega district.

Special RT-PCR testing drive in East Singhbhum | Ranchi News

Picture used for representational purpose only JAMSHEDPUR: The district administration has launched a special Covid-19 RT-PCR testing drive across all the 10 blocks in East Singhbhum. The drive was held in the eight rural blocks on Monday, while tests will be conducted in the remaining two blocks comprising urban and suburban areas on Wednesday. The drive was held at the public health centres (PICs) in Baharagora, Ghatshila, Dumaria, Chakulia, Musaboni, Potka, Patamda and Dhalbhumgarh. Tests would also be conducted at the popular markets and malls in the Steel City. “We have set a target of carrying out 6,500 tests during the drive. Of which, 4,500 would be conducted in the rural blocks and the remaining 2,000 in the urban circle,” the additional chief medical officer (ACMO), Sahir Pall, said.
