Jharkhand had 56,86 active cases with the biggest chunk of 1546 cases in Ranchi alone. RANCHI: Jharkhand reported 293 new Covid-19 cases from 42,566 tests and eight deaths on Sunday. Of the new cases, East Singhbhum reported the highest of 45 infections. Chatra and Pakur did not report any fresh case. The positivity rate has now further dipped to 0.68%. The state’s cumulative caseload stood at 3,41,218 while the toll was at 5,054, the health department said. Among the deaths, two were reported from East Singhbhum while one each was reported from six districts-Dhanbad, Hazaribag, Lohardaga, Pakur, Ranchi and Simdega. As of Sunday, Jharkhand had 56,86 active cases with the biggest chunk of 1546 cases in Ranchi alone. Meanwhile, as many as 74,134 people took their first dose of the Covid vaccine while 4,705 beneficiaries took the second dose on Sunday.

Ranchi: The number of active Covid cases in Jharkhand breached the 50,000-mark on Tuesday with 6,020 new infections and 4.247 recoveries in the last 24 hours. With 131 deaths, the state also registered its biggest single-day fatality count, surpassing the 124 reported on Monday. The state’s cumulative caseload stood at 2,13,414, of which 1,59,916 have recovered, 51,252 are active cases and 2,246 have died. More than half the death through the pandemic have taken place this month alone. Ranchi continued to get a four-digit spikes as 1574 new cases and 61 deaths. East Singhbhum accounted for 992 infection and 14 deaths. The surge continued in Hazaribag too with 584 cases, followed by Ramgarh (301), Bokaro (275), Jamtara (266) and Dhanbad (221). As many as eight districts logged between 100 and 200 cases. Remaining seven districts reported cases in double digits.

Dead, retired govt employees avail ration in Garhwa | Ranchi News

GARHWA: In Banshidhar Nagar sub-division of Garhwa district, government pensioners and the deceased were ‘availing’ ration through the public distribution system (PDS). For instance, Santosh Bandhari from Koljhiki panchayat, who had died years ago, was allegedly procuring ration meant for BPL people from PDS dealer Arti Mahila Vikas Samiti. Similarly, Sudarshan Ram, a government pensioner, was drawing ration meant for the underprivileged. Savita Devi, the mukhiya of Koljhiki panchayat, said, “There are several such cases. The deserving persons are being ignored and the well-off are being provided ration by PDS dealers.” A local PDS dealer, Vinod Chandravanshi, said: “Such cases wherein the rich are getting PDS benefits have come to light in a number of places.”

Picture used for representational purpose only RANCHI: Almost 11 months after the lockdown was announced to curb the spread of Covid-19, Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) has decided to resume offline classes in a phased manner in the coming days, a university official said. Professor Manoj Kumar said physical classes on the university campus were already taking place for experiment-oriented research works and the university has decided to open its hostel for research scholars from February 15. He said, “We will monitor the situation for some time and, if the Covid situation is conducive, resume offline practical classes for other post-graduate students. The classes will be operated as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines issued recently. As of now, white-washing and sanitization of the university building is in progress.”
