welcome. i m neil cavuto. it has happened again. a lot of people wondering how the heck it happened again. growing questions again for the transportation department secretary and what this means where we re going. garrett tenney in chicago chicago with the latest. folks that live in the small town are now allowed to go back to their home after the entire town was evacuated in the middle of the night. this train was 40 cars long. nearly two dozen derailed with several cars carrying hazardous material breaking open and catching 4. firefighters had to go door-to-door to evacuate the town. we heard the train come through. we heard a loud boom. it s like oh, my gosh, i wonder what is burning. i didn t know if it was toxic chemicals. 14 of the cars had hazardous materials, corn serum and ethanol, which is flammable. state officials say the fire is control and most of the spilled ethanol has burned off. we re concerned about what we re breathing, what s in the cars. look at
coordinating so we don t overload the system. neil: we had other snafus at airports, not about your airline, but other private jet competition wasn t the issue. it was inundated airports. what is going on different then than now? we saw it in florida a lot as an example. we typically find this has to do with a jump in traffic. i ll point you to the holidays this year. southwest was having its challenges. we had huge problems with air traffic control and blue skies. you go look at it, there was mountains of private jet traffic. that s what was new versus three to five days earlier. that s what s overloading the system. a controller can handle so many flight going through a certain lane. there s some ways to allocate the airspace and segregate this
sir our number four engine. we d like to return i just want to make sure because we have jet traffic coming in. can you go or do you need to be on the ground right now? reporter: the ntsb says that the plane was having trouble gaining altitude and that pretty much falls in step with what we re hearing here on the ground. eyewitnesses say they looked up and could tell that the plane was in distress. it was way too low. he was way too low. when i ran over to the field, and actually, a guy had turned around in his car, and he s like, oh, my god, i thought it was going to land on me. reporter: 13 people on board that plane, ten passengers, three crew members. again, seven people lost their lives on board that flight yesterday. six people did survive, though, and ntsb is crediting one man in particular. he s a member of the air national guard who just happened to be sitting in the back of the plane, and they say he was able
least one person on the ground were injured. cnn s jason carroll is live for us this morning at bradley international airport. jason, what are you learning this morning? reporter: well, it s just a terrible accident. members of the ntsb are here on the ground collecting evidence. they re going to be doing that, christine, for the next seven to ten days. but what is already clear is that minutes after the pilot took off, he immediately ran into trouble. according to the ntsb, the b-17 took off here yesterday at 9:45 a.m. at 9:50, five minutes later, the pilot radioed that he needed to return back to the airport. 93012, we d like to return to the field. number 93012, again. what s the reason for coming back? number four engine. we d like to return. i just want to make sure because we have jet traffic
