House probe sought into OCTA Research; fellow welcomes chance to discuss methodology

Published August 4, 2021 9:01am Updated August 4, 2021 10:01am Five members of the House of Representatives have filed a resolution seeking an investigation into OCTA Research, an independent research group that regularly issues projections and warnings about the COVID-19 pandemic. House Resolution 2075, filed August 3, urges the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation to ascertain the credentials and background of OCTA Research. There is a public health and public policy need to ensure the safety and security of the population during this pandemic, and that information being distributed is correct and are not irresponsibly and erroneously published, the five lawmakers said in the resolution.

Octa Research logo Octa Research, which has demonstrated consistency in making accurate projections about the COVID-19 situation in the country, has welcomed the move of lawmakers. Officers of the research organization, which has also dabbled in political poll surveys, will be invited to respond to the questions raised by lawmakers who filed House Resolution 2075 to propose the House inquiry to be conducted by the House Committee on Good Government. HR 2075 is authored by Deputy Speakers Bernadette Herrera (BH Partylist) , Sharon Garin (AAMBIS-OWA Partylist) and Kristine Singson Meehan (2nd District, Ilocos Sur); Deputy Majority Leader Jesus “Bong” Suntay (4th District, Quezon City) and Deputy Minority Leader Stella Luz Quimbo (2nd District, Marikina City).
