Dirt to soil, worms & leftovers

What is composting and why does it matter? The first rays of sunlight beamed across the sleeping town of Chico as the low rumble of garbage trucks sounded off the Esplanade. Many Chico residents are waking up, making breakfast and throwing away tons of environmentally valuable waste that could be used in composting.  Many people don’t know that composting is nature’s way of recycling nutrients back into the soil. By composting, you can improve the fertility and health of gardens while also learning about the process of decomposition. There is currently a strong percentage of waste going into landfills that could be composted instead. Plus, composting is pretty inexpensive and can be fun by yourself or with your friends and family.

Brockhampton party like it's 2017 on 'ROADRUNNER' – The Orion

After years of countless controversies and artistic detours, Brockhampton has returned with “ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE,” focusing on emotionally potent, but colorful and bright bangers. Ever since signing to RCA Records, Brockhampton has been in an uphill battle. From losing one of their core members, Ameer Vann, to a slew of allegations against members, it seemed like the “Saturation” trilogy would be their peak. Between “iridescence” and “GINGER,” the group put their coping and healing process on public display. While not completely past their misfortunes, Brockhampton’s newest album is a throwback to what made them blow up in the first place.

Social Activism In Art

A pair of red stiletto heels clicked in rhythm against the asphalt after the bright flash of the walk sign. Suddenly, a wolf-whistle pierced from a raised pickup truck shocked the woman out of the steady pattern of her footsteps.  The passengers in the truck shout something that she can’t quite make out, but knows it’s lewd in nature and is intended to make her feel uncomfortable. Often the knee-jerk response to these situations is to ascertain if her outfit was provocative. Victim-blaming only ignores the reality of situations like this.  On February 4, CSU Chico Humanities facilitated an online webinar called “A Human Touch: A Conversation on Human Concerns Across Difference as Seen Through the Art of Suzanne Lacy.” The talk, co-sponsored by the Visiting Artist Series, is an online Zoom discussion that shared Lacy’s life-long devotion in addressing key social issues through the medium of photography and film.

The Shutter-bye Effect

The sun beat against the back of a flowered dress as it stuck to the little girl’s skin before disappearing behind a tall building. The squeaky black shoes gently tucked themselves under the church pew, as the strumming of small fingers pounded the wooden bench seat. The elders leered with disdain at you. “Shhhh, be.
