ANSONIA With vaccination appointments opening to everybody 16 and older beginning Thursday, at least one local community is considering a special vaccine clinic just for high school students.
Ansonia officials said this week they plan to reach out to students and parents to see if there is interest in a student-only vaccination event so teens could get inoculated in time for prom in May and graduation in June.
“It s something that has been mentioned and has been talked about. I mean, we ve already done it for our teachers, and something we could do for our students as well,” said Superintendent Joseph DiBacco said.

SHELTON The school district under the direction of Griffin Hospital and the Naugatuck Valley Health District will hold a COVID vaccination clinic for staff members on Saturday.
Superintendent Ken Saranich, in an email to district employees Sunday, said Shelton school staff will receive the Pfizer vaccine. Appointments will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shelton Intermediate School.
“This will definitely assist us in opening up our schools more quickly and safely as our entire school system of workers, including our maintenance, security, cafeteria and bus drivers, will be afforded the opportunity to get vaccinated,” Board of Education Chairwoman Kathy Yolish said.

On Monday, our first award winner was Karen Robb. Karen has been putting her sewing skills to incredible use - by making scrubs for NHS and care staff on the Island. She helped to build up a team of sewers to help make vital PPE, including scrubs, hats and bags.
Our second winner was volunteer, Paddy McHugh. Paddy is used to being one of the main people involved in the Island s annual events - but COVID put a stop to that. He has been selflessly volunteering and helping people on the Island and played a vital role in the Isle of Wight Radio Christmas Toy Appeal.
