Rewind on RTRFM – 23 July 2021

Saturday 24th July / posted by Chris Wheeldon This week,  Rewind covers three stand-out stories from RTRFM, featuring a new sport for the blind community, a Boorloo icon getting national recognition, and a shock new decision from the state s leading university. First,  Jesse Begley speaks to  Robert Hitchcock, the artist behind Matagarup (Heirisson Island) s statue of Yagan. A new version of the 1984 icon is getting a permanent place at the National Museum of Australia, which gave us an opportunity to talk to the artist about his process, his most celebrated artworks, and the legacy of a Noongar hero. Next,  Jeff Bullen speaks to NTEU representative

Professor Clinton Fernandes

Thursday 8th July / presented by Jesse Begley On the morning of September 11, 1973 the Chilean military launched a coup to overthrow democratically elected Salvador Allende and install a repressive military dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet. This coup was fostered by the CIA on the orders of US President Nixon with the assistance of the Australian secret services. The involvement of Australia in this story was largely unknown until UNSW Professor Clinton Fernandes launched a four year campaign to release the redacted intelligence files. Jesse Begley spoke with Professor Fernandes on presenting his case against sanctioned secret court hearings.
