fulton county board of commissioners, this is our largest county in the state and saying if they did not appoint somebody he liked for the fulton county board of elections that he would, quote, take them over. there are 20 bills, lawrence, that have passed in 13 states around the country including georgia that are meant to take power away from elections officials and u move it to jerry mandered republican state legislatures and other elected political bodies because they have taken the big lie. they have taken the drop boxes and early vote and vote by mail that everybody used in the pandemic at new levels, and they are weaponizing all those voter fraud lies to restrict all of that access. and shift election power away and so if he thinks integrity counts, he needs to not take over a county that had the best early vote, the most drop boxes in the state and focus on cleaning up his republican party
virginia. we ve been talking earlier about how virginia always has off-year elections that every seat in the statehouse and every seat in the state senate were up tonight. just two years ago in virginia we saw an incredible turn out of democratic voters, democrats in the statehouse, for example, received 200,000 more votes than the republicans they were running against. nevertheless, the state was so jer jerry mandered the republicans ended up in both houses of the state legislator. the associated press has declared the democratic party has gained control of the virginia state senate. we are still watching the house to see if democrats will also be able to flip the house. can we bring steve in on this or are we going to take a break and bring in steve? we ll take a quick break and have steve kornacki look at this. you should know in virginia, though, this has potentially huge policy implication in the state because democrats right now already hold the big
we were in the most jerry mandered political arena you could imagine and yet we won 40 seats in the house of representatives. but that plan didn t work for them. we had a message where we had our see, our caucus is beautifully diverse. we re as diverse as it comes in gender identity, geography, ethnicity, you name it. dana: we have been listening to speaker nancy pelosi. she is at the atlantic festival in washington, d.c. she was in front of a very friendly crowd, i would say, as she was asked questions several times about the possibility of impeachment inquiry being instigated. joe biden is expected to address this very issue and will be taking questions from the press. we ll bring that to you as soon
white working class and ease into the democratic phase, makes possible so many traditional republicans held their nose and voted with him because they found hillary clinton simply too toxic and they just weren t able to go there. so i think what republicans are looking at here is a scenario where they hope and believe that democrats are going to repeat that again, nominate somebody who is going to be so unacceptable that no matter what certain republicans that are important to winning a white house think about the president, they ll stick with him anyway because democratic nominee will be too unacceptable. that is a big gamble especially when the president could run on an economy that is doing well and he could try and expand his coalition. by the same token, what democrats have to worry about is not every one of these voters is as democratic as the ones in these jerrymandered blue districts like the ones represented by the squad. dana: they were there this morning with gayle king.
