the heat is slowing their efforts p a fire destroyed several hundred feet of underground cable on monday. it heated it and caused the outage to spread. for people who live in the area, it was the third straight night without any air conditioning. that is tough especially these last few days. another day of hot waet? and the heat goes on. we ll continue to have excessive heat today, but not as hot as it has been the last couple days. we probably won t make 100, but still mid-90s quite likely. now it s a warm and muggy. 70s in montgomery county and in prince gorms county and right near the bay, near 80 degrees. that s about the water temperature, as well. farther to our west, the blue ridge and maryland, virginia, it s in the low to mid southwest this morning. in southern maryland, northern neck, eastern shore, temperatures there are in the southwest to near 80. look at the dew points there in the low 70s in many locations, especially around the bay and the eastern shore. t

the humidity is actually a little higher than it was earlier today. our third day in triple digits. we broke records once again, folks. we hit officially 102 degrees in d.c. we hit that yesterday. we spent seven hours at 100 degrees yesterday, over 100. dulles and bwi also in the record books. these rormds go back to the 80s records go back to the 80s and early 90s. high pressure still pumping in the heat for us. we are not alone in this misery. there were high temperatures broken up and down the mid- atlantic. check out richmond at 104. d.c. of course 102. baltimore 101. new york city 100. not everyone in the country is this hot but the mid-atlantic is absolutely sizzling. check out temperatures right now. we mentioned 91 still at d.c. that s one of the warmer spots. baltimore right there you see that heat island effect in the city with the concrete holding in all the temperatures. many places may only drop to around 80 tonight. even that could set some records. so what
yesterday. you can see water gushing at the scene. mandatory water restrictions are back in place but only for the town of rockville. this is the second water main problem in potomac this week but this time wssc customers are not effected. crews from the city of rockville department of public works are handling it. right now we have the replacement pipe and collars on- site so the next step is to put them back in place. we have to make sure the line is chlorinated and free of bacteria and the bacteria test will take several hours. so we anticipate water restrictions being in place for at least another 24 hours or so. this latest break is not part of the line that had problems last week. it will be a while before residents in our area get relief from the heat. crews are fast at work to get power restored. audrey barns joins us live from northwest d.c. with more on this developing story. audrey. reporter: good morning, once again. pepco said a primary cable and feeder
