After a quiet year, river cruise lines are making new moves: Travel Weekly

It s been a long, quiet year on the river cruise beat. Except for a few near-restarts last summer here in the United States, conversations during my regular check-ins with folks across the industry long ago turned into Groundhog Day-type chats about when and how sailings might resume. But if this past week is any indication, companies are gaining confidence about the seasons ahead and cranking up their marketing efforts. Monday, for instance, both AmaWaterways and Crystal River Cruises unveiled some of the surprises companies have been hinting were under development during the shutdown. First, AmaWaterways announced the longest-ever river cruise, a 46-night journey across 14 countries on four different ships.

Planning a ranch vacation? Dude, this website just made it easier: Travel Weekly

Jeri Clausing With many travelers expected to remain close to home this year, the Dude Ranchers Association (DRA) has revamped its website to make it easy for travel advisors and consumers to find pandemic-era luxury in the great outdoors. A page on the site speaks directly to the trade. This new website from the association is an excellent resource for agents and travel counselors to find the right ranch for their clients and make bookings directly with the ranch, he said.

Travel Corp s Brett Tollman on opening a safari lodge during the pandemic: Travel Weekly

| Red Carnation Hotels, part of the Travel Corporation group of companies founded by South Africa natives Stanley and Beatrice Tollman, recently opened its first safari camp, the luxury Xigera in Botswana. Senior editor Jeri Clausing talked with the Tollman s son, TTC CEO Brett Tollman, about the new property and his outlook for travel. Brett Tollman Q: You are recently back from a trip to South Africa and Xigera. Tell me about the new property. A: Phenomenal. It s been a lifetime vision of the family to create our own safari lodge. For my father, what he particularly wanted to create was the opportunity to go on safari with the family. That s something we ve done over the years. Every summer we take a number of our children, all the siblings, my parents and usually a few friends and take over one of the Wilderness Safaris camps. Now it s that opportunity to bring a Tollman safari experience to those who want to try it.
