AUBURN, Ala. – The No.16/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams opened competition at the Auburn Invite on Friday. The Seminoles won five relays and Jenny Halden captured gold in the 100 fly behind a season-best of 52.65. “Today was a fun day,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had some good swims and great team vibe. We’re looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow.” The women’s team finished first behind Brooke Arnold, Ariana Ottavianelli, Ashley Zettle and Des Lewis at 1:35.44 in the 200 free relay to start the meet. Arnold turned in her season best in the 500 free, finishing in fifth place with a time of 4:55.46. Ashley Zettle placed ninth at 5:09.51. Sydney Cole followed with a personal best in the 200 IM, touching at 2:03.50 for fourth place ahead of Syndey Boals in eighth at 2:04.34. ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 19/24 Florida State swimming and diving teams continued competing at the Georgia Invite at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. “We had a great day,” FSU head coach Neal Stud said. “I thought overall we had some good swims and we have an awesome vibe. Everyone is supporting their teammates and it’s showing in the pool.” The 19th-ranked men saw a pair of podium performances from Tazman Abramowicz and Adrian Aguilar. Abramowicz turned in a score of 356.25 for third place and Aguilar also won bronze in the 100 fly at 46.54, which was a personal best. The swim ties as the seventh-fastest in school history. Utku Kurtdere led off the men’s meet with a NCAA provisional swim in the 400 IM, touching at 3:51.30 for 14th. The Noles were led by three in the consolation heat of the 200 free as Peter Varjasi turned in the top time at 1:34.23, which was good for 10th place. Tallahassee, Fla. – Nine members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams were named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team on Thursday.
Izaak Bastian, Mason Herbet and Jakub Ksiazek were named to the men’s team, while Nina Kucheran, Jenny Halden, Tania Quaglieri, Edith Jernstedt, Gloria Muzito and Rebecca Moynihan were selected to the women’s.
“We have a lot of brilliant student-athletes on our team,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “These nine put in the work in the pool and in the classroom and they set a tremendous example for the rest of the team. I am very proud of how they represent FSU every day.”
Bastian (Athletic Training) and Ksiazek (Finance) earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers, two of four on the 46-man list to accomplish the feat.
Bastian was also awarded the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship this season, where he will continue his studies in athletic training following graduation.
