Driver of a red bmw held a gun out the window and was shooting at another, charcoal colored sedan. Nguyen heard three shots near polk street, and then ducked to the ground, grabbed the dog, tried to protect him. I think he was reacting to what i was doing. He stopped, and he looked. Loki and his owner was some of the only ones outside when it happened. Nguyen says another couple on a walk heard the shots, but initially thought they were a car backfiring. Police arrived quickly, and found casings, but the dueling drivers and their cars were already gone. It felt like things were happening in slow motion but so fast at the same time. Several people who live nearby told me they were surprised to see such a Police Presence in this part of the city. Nice neighborhood, tons of tourists, lots of nice families and so, yeah a little discomforting that it happened that close to home. Im in russian hill ya know, one of the safest parts of the city.
