Galesburg D205 superintendent recommends Tom Hawkins for GHS principal
GALESBURG The District 205 School Board approved administrator pay raises on May 10.
“It’s something that everybody needs as cost of living increases and the raises were in line with the raises we gave teachers,” said school board president Rod Scherpe.
Raises for administrators were not presented to the board until contract negotiations for teachers were complete.
Administrators receiving retroactive 4% salary increases for the 2020-2021 school year are Tiffany Springer, curriculum director; Jennifer Hamm, assistant superintendent for finance and operations; Tom Hawkins, Churchill Junior High principal; Nick Young, Lombard Middle School Principal, Matthew Lingafelter, Churchill Junior High assistant principal; and Eric Matthews, district athletic director.

The Board of Education for District 205 met and approved several bid packages Monday night for the renovation work at Galesburg High School, which will be the district’s 7-12 learning center.
The largest package was for Phase Three construction, the interior building of the Performance Arts Center, which is over budget by about $600,000.
Lee Marbach with Russell Construction says that volatility in the structural steel and wood market is the reason for the unexpected increase in costs. Additionally, he said the current state of the economy plays a factor in it too.
“The other thing that’s affected our bids is the economy is starting to come back and contractors are filling up work-wise. So, we’re not getting as competitive numbers as we did,” Marbach told board members. “Overall, we are over budget on this phase of our estimate but on the overall ‘grand scheme of things’ we are underneath the overall projected project budget.”

School Board members for District 205 on Monday approved the bid documents for the third phase of the high school renovation work.
The third phase of the renovation includes the high school auditorium redesign as well as the new addition of the band and choral space.
“So everything from the back wall of the auditorium, which you presented earlier, to the west is being bid in Phase Three,” said Brian Archibald with Legat Architects at the meeting. “In addition to that, you’re bidding the corridor connection and the band and choir addition in the front of the building.”
Lee Marbach with Russell Construction told the board that they were targeting a winter completion time, meaning space could be available to students by the start of the spring semester.
