STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced community groups will now have a role in the selection and election of NYPD precinct commanders, the second police reform policy being put into place in the city in recent weeks.
De Blasio said precinct commanders are “absolutely pivotal leaders” and help set the tone for police and community relations in the neighborhoods they serve.
