attack him, some of his opponents are considering a more in-your-face strategy during this upcoming debate. we re also looking closely at a new call from the head of al qaeda for lone wolf attacks inside of america. this coming just as law enforcement sources tell cnn the fbi is monitoring suspected jihadist chatter about attacks against the pope who arrives in the u.s. next week. our reporters are working their sources on all of the day s developing stories. they are standing by along with our political analysts and our experts. i want to begin with cnn senior washington correspondent jeff zellny at the debate site in california. jeff. reporter: hey, brianna, good afternoon. donald trump continues to defy. he s frustrating party leaders. you can see his rivals are lining up to take him down again. it hasn t worked so far, the
thing and ultimately what will enable us to win a long time from now. but a little over a year and a couple months. it is coming upon us fast. the time line for the election. all right. chairman reince priebus, thank you. i want to bring in rebecca, national reporter for clear politics. we have our commentators, former obama adviser, we have kevin madden and also with us, cnn senior washington correspondent jeff zellny. i ll go first. all right. you go first. what did you hear? chairman priebus has a couple things he can t control. he can t control who gets into the race and he can t control what they say. what he can skrol whether or not he buildings the infrastructure and he can build a negative frame around hillary clinton, he can build a negative record
reporter: fiorina told me this morning she hopes that helps her get onto the main stage at cnn s debate next month. that s limited to the top ten candidates scoring the highest in national polls, much like the fox debate. if her poll numbers follow the spike in the google searches for her name, which happened after that happy hour debate, she might have a shot. we will see. stick with me as i bring in chief political analyst gloria borger, washington correspondent jeff zellny. gloria, i think you were really surprised in particular that no guys stood up for megan kelly in this back and forth with donald trump? i was. it was a moment where somebody could have exhibited some kind of leadership or, you know, just off the cuff. because they were all prepared for everything else. and i would argue that if carly fiorina, for example, had been on that stage, she would have said, mr. trump, i think those
conflict now between police and the community. and he s being blamed for that because of his zero tolerance policy. how do you think that s going to play out? reporter: sure he s being blamed for some of it. in fact a few protesters a handful of protesters tried to interrupt his speech. one was saying black lives matter. of course the anthem of the rallies we ve been seeing in baltimore for so long. but look he can t be blamed for all of the problems in baltimore but is it part of his record. he has been campaigning on saying that he reduced crime in baltimore because of his policy. so at some point he ll have to give more of a folsom answer on this. i m not so sure this presidential campaign is going to be guided by what happened here in baltimore. it certainly is something that is not helpful to him but it is part of his record. he s trying to focus more on his time as governor when he was a progressive and very liberal governor here in maryland north dakota. absolutely. jeff zel
o malley aims to be progressive alternative to hillary clinton. won t he have to battle with vermont senator bernie sanders as well? no doubt. he and bernie sanders both competing for anyone but hillary clinton votes, though democrats who are looking for something else. but martin o malley is a former two-term governor of maryland. he s presenting himself as an experienced, new leader kind of pointing out, you know he has been a governor and a mayor, not just serving time in the senate. but his speech was very interesting today, particularly when he took a not so subtle jab at hillary clinton and jeb bush. goldman sachs is one of the biggest repeat investment banks in america. recently the ceo of goldman sachs let his employees know that he d be just fine with either bush or clinton. i bet he would!
