He took the oath of office with his history-making vice president, Kamala Harris, on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, where on Jan. 6 a violent mob stormed into the halls of Congress, creating a dark day in American history.

2020 in Review: Covering history in real time in South Jersey This year felt like a decade. It was full of headaches: long lines, empty store shelves (seriously, people, what s with the toilet paper thing?), face masks and so, so much hand sanitizer.  And it was full of heartache: missing friends and family, businesses struggling and sometimes closing for good, jobs, livelihoods and worst of all, loved ones we lost. As journalists, we lived with all the same headaches and heartaches.  Like you, we watched in horror as a policeman choked the life out of a man, a blank expression on his face as the human being beneath his knee gasped and pleaded for his mother. The hope we felt as marchers took to the streets to demand justice and equality for all people turned to despair as some of those righteous protests turned into angry looting and burning.

Those three events dominated our year as well as the Delaware Online and The News Journal pages. But you ve read all that, many times over, from many outlets.
