Hudson Town Meeting is expected to mull removing the residency requirement for the next executive assistant

HUDSON The town’s next executive assistant may not be required to live in Hudson. The town charter requires the executive assistant to establish residence in Hudson within nine months of being appointed, but selectmen on Monday requested Town Counsel Aldo Cipriano begin the process of drafting an article for Town Meeting to eliminate the residency requirement from the charter. Any change to the charter must be approved by Town Meeting. Hudson is searching for a new executive assistant. Thomas Moses, who has held the position for the past seven years, will retire in May. Board members said removing the residency requirement will help the town garner a better pool of applicants.

Hudson schools will have remote learning for two weeks after the holiday break

HUDSON – Hudson schools will shift from hybrid to full remote learning Jan. 4 for two weeks to prevent a potential holiday-related surge of coronavirus cases in the schools. Superintendent Marco Rodrigues said last week he and the administration team were considering moving to remote learning for two weeks after the holiday break due to concerns that gatherings during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays could lead to an uptick in positive cases. He informed the school community in a letter late last week that Hudson will temporarily transition to full remote learning. “We strongly believe that there is no replacement for in-person learning and the connections between students and their teachers and peers,” Rodrigues wrote. “However, concerns surrounding the significant rise in COVID-19 cases in our community and statewide, the extended holiday period in the coming week and the potential for additional positive cases within our students and staff, may impact our ability

Hudson officials are in the process of searching for a new executive assistant; Thomas Moses, who has held the position for the past seven years, will retire in May. Some town leaders have said they may be able to attract a better pool of candidates if the residency requirement is lifted. Community Paradigm Associates, a Plymouth-based consulting firm, has been tapped to assist the seven-member Executive Assistant Search Committee in the search.

Santa will be chauffered across Marlborough this weekend during the city s first annual Santa Run

MARLBOROUGH Santa is making a pre-Christmas visit to the city this weekend to spread some holiday cheer. Marlborough is holding its first Santa Run Saturday and Sunday evening to give children throughout the city an opportunity to see and wave to Santa. The city’s annual Home for the Holiday event which includes the tree lighting and a visit from Santa was canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Marlborough Fire Department will chauffer Santa in Rescue 1 throughout the city from 3:30-8:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Neighborhoods east of Rte. 85 will receive a visit from Santa on Saturday. Santa will drive through streets west of Rte. 85 on Sunday. Residents can track Santa’s progress via the Glympse mobile app.

Assabet transitioning to remote learning until mid-January due to COVID concerns

MetroWest Daily News Starting Monday, Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School will transition from hybrid to full remote learning until mid-January due to rising coronavirus cases at the school and in the region. School officials reported nine individuals at the Marlborough-based technical high school tested positive for the virus last week, the highest number of new cases in a week since school began Sept. 16. Five of the individuals were in school for at least one day within seven days prior to a positive test, according to the school’s coronavirus dashboard. “The highest number of reported positive cases that Assabet has had up until this point has been three,” Superintendent Ernie Houle wrote in a letter to the school community.
