Burke County now has another tool in its zoning toolbox.
The Burke County Board of Commissioners approved 4-1 Tuesday night to now use conditional zoning in addition to conventional zoning and district overlays. Commissioner Phil Smith opposed the measure.
Burke County commissioners and staff kicked off the budget season for the upcoming fiscal year with a two-day workshop on Thursday and Friday.
After the workshop ended on Friday, Burke County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jeff Brittain said it’s too early to say where the property tax rate may land for 2024-25 but he’s not anticipating an increase.
Early voting is up in this year’s primary election, say local elections officials.
Kenny Rhyne, interim director of elections for the county, said as of the end of the day on Thursday, a total of 2,030 people had cast a ballot during early voting in Burke County.
