Katherine scott is live at shawmont elementary where students and staff are mourning the loss. Reporter Sheila Hawkins had been with the district since92. My heart is aching she was so wonderful. The kids loved her. Its going to be hard, youre talking about a teacher who knew everybody. Sunday morning before 8 00 a. M. , a fire trapped hawkins and others inside their home on wren street. Hawkins was rushed to the hospital with third degree burns. She want into cardiac rest and died at the hospital. Neighbors gathered to help the fament. A letter was provided to arriving parents. The principal said he was going to have a briefing on what happened. Reporter the School District said it touch the entire School Community and brought in grief counselors to help. They made a bag for each resident, because they knew their size. Last night the staff was here probably until 9 00 p. M.
