Thales expands drone management for safer airspace

Thales and Venture Capital funded start-up Airspace Link are partnering to integrate ground risk data from state and local governments, such as the location of schools, power lines and firework displays, with air risk data from air traffic control systems, enabling communities to manage the safe use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into their airspace, while respecting privacy and quality of life. Airspace Link complements Thales’ expertise in airspace management and systems integration with the geospatial intelligence to support operations where a UAS is out of an operator’s visual range. Thales has also become a minority investor with Airspace Link to continue to innovate in the evolving area of UAS traffic management.

The Last Villains, Mad Dog & The Butcher; documentary brings back memories of Grand Prix Wrestling and more

When my brother and I were kids, there was nothing we liked more than following professional wrestling. In the 1970s this was big time, with regular galas at the Montreal Forum and the local CFCF studios for which they called Grand Prix Wrestling. I still remember all the names: The Giant Jean FerrÃ©, Edouard Carpentier, the Green Hornets, Dino Bravo, Gino Brito, Killer Kowalski, the Rougeau family, the Destroyer and many more. Of course, there was the famous Vachon family: Maurice âMad Dog,â Paul âThe Butcher,â Vivian and Luna. I just finished watching The Last Villains, Mad Dog & The Butcher, which is screening April 10 at the Canadian Film Fest. It was most interesting speaking to director Thomas Rinfret about the larger-than-life story of the legendary Vachon family of pro wrestlers, as recounted by its only surviving member, Paul The Butcher Vachon.
