As BJP fields Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari, Assam CM debate heats up

Sarma, who heads at least five major ministries in Assam and who manages BJP’s affairs across the eight Northeast states has, on several occasions, said that he is not keen on contesting the 2021 assembly polls and wants to work for the party. He, however, added that the final decision in this regard will be made by the party.

In an exchange of seats with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), BJP has taken the Barhampur from AGP, this seat was won since 1985 by former Chief Minister, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
Putting speculation to rest, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from Jalukbari. Sarma had earlier said that he wasn t very keen on contesting the Assembly polls this year.
