Center announces extension of free ‘Live @ the MACC’ streamed events By Staff | Mar 5, 2021 Taverna has released five albums and most recently an EP, “Just Be You.” His fourth album, “Aloha Spirit,” was a Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee in 2018 for Best Contemporary Album. KAHULUI The Maui Arts & Cultural Center recently announced a continuation of its “Live @ the MACC” series. This new set of events consists of a diverse set of rock, pop and Hawaiian music concerts taking place in the Castle Theater, as well as another special focus on visual arts in the MACC’s Schaefer International Gallery. Each event will continue to be aired Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m., but instead of the audience coming to the MACC, the events will be streamed on the center’s website and Facebook and YouTube pages.

Feb 18, 2021 Ron Metoyer, a guitarist and vocalist from Oakland, Calif., who moved to Maui in 1983, will be one of several performers during “A Musical Tribute to Black History Month” on Saturday at The Empanada Lady Maui in Wailuku. The Maui News Jazz Maui will hold “A Musical Tribute to Black History Month” on Saturday to celebrate classic African American-inspired music and benefit music education programs. The dinner shows at The Empanada Lady Maui in Wailuku will feature accomplished Maui musicians and poetry by Bryant Neal and Ayin Adams, according to a news release. Performers will include pianist and vocalist Sal Godinez, guitarist and vocalist Ron Metoyer, drummer Jesse Smith, bass player Jay Molina, contemporary jazz and soul vocalist Sarah Black, professional guitarist and music educator Prem Brosio and singer, songwriter, author and poet Tanama Colibri.

Kozuki, who grew up around the family bakery, was brought in as volunteer help for the busy day, while Saito is the popular bakery’s retired sales manager. Saito said they sold 300 dozen malasadas by 8:30 a.m. and were aiming for 1,000 dozen by the end of the day. Malasadas are a traditional sweet treat eaten on Fat Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent.
