Amanda Savignano knew her grandmother, Josephine “Jay” Glenefsky, was born a twin in Needham in 1920. She also knew the twin sister was stillborn and taken away by the doctor the day of the home birth.
“Any time [my grandmother] asked about her twin, she was told to be quiet and was not given any further information,” Savignano said recently. “This was a very typical Lithuanian family. Family secrets were closely guarded.
In 2005, Savignano drove to the Needham Town Clerk’s office, searching for information about the stillborn baby.
Maybe her grandmother could at least visit a grave, she thought.
