Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - New Ipswich starts search for new police chief

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 5/13/2021 1:46:49 PM The New Ipswich Select Board is moving forward with forming a committee to conduct a search for a new police chief. Police Chief Tim Carpenter has announced he will be retiring on July 1. The town is hoping to have a permanent hire in place when Carpenter leaves the position. During its meeting on Tuesday, the Select Board discussed forming a committee to find that replacement. The board discussed the committee being comprised of Carpenter, possibly another representative from the New Ipswich Police Department, and an additional police chief. Selectman Jason Somero questioned why the town would require an additional chief on the committee, and whether that would require a consultation fee.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Town budget passes by four votes

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 3/10/2021 5:15:59 PM New Ipswich voters passed the town budget – barely – and approved the Mascenic School District budget as well, along with nearly every other item on the warrant.  The $2,710,452 town budget passed by just four votes, 368-364. Town moderator Robert Romeril said that as of Wednesday afternoon, town officials had not received any requests for recount.  Mascenic’s $19,254,693 school district budget passed a little bit more easily, 448-390. In Greenville, twice as many voters cast ballots for the budget than against it (68-32), while in New Ipswich, it passed 380-358.  The closest vote of the day was likely the one with the least financial impact going forward, as residents accepted the quarter-mile Valley Road as a public highway, removing the burden of snow removal from residents of the 12-house cul-de-sac.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Three-way race to fill New Ipswich Select Board seat

Published: 2/26/2021 11:24:59 AM With New Ipswich Select Board Chair David Lage not seeking reelection for his seat this year, there is a three-way race to fill his slot on the ballot. During a candidates’ Night on Tuesday, with candidates speaking both in person at the town offices and via Zoom, all three candidates made their pitch for the position. Lou Alvarez, Jason Somero and Charlie Jackman, all three of whom would be newcomers to the board, have put in for the position. Alvarez, who has served on the Planning Board for the past four years, said he has lived in New Ipswich since 1989, but it was not until his recent retirement that he had the time to become involved in town boards. He said he’s enjoyed his work on the Planning Board, and wants to become further involved in the running of the town.
