Pike County voter primary turnout low, but mail-in went better

Tri-County Independent PIKE COUNTY -Voter turnout was quite low in Pike County on May 18, with mostly municipal elections on the ballot and few of them being contested. Even the four statewide referendums failed to stimulate much interest. The overall turnout was 18.75%, with 8075 people voting from a total registration of 43,056, according to data released by the Pike County Election Office. Republicans showed the most zeal, with a 22.69% turnout but also with more contested elections than their Democratic brethren who had a 19.97% showing. Although Primary ballot races are only open to Republican and Democratic voters, anyone registered can vote for the referendum questions. There were 771 non-partisan voters doing so, only 8.40% of the 9,177 registered voters who are neither Democrats nor Republicans.

Six candidates running in East Stroudsburg school board primary

Voters in each primary can vote for four candidates, so anywhere from four to six candidates could move on to the November election, depending on whether the exact same candidates or somewhat different sets are victorious in each primary. Voters in the following precincts will vote in this race: East Stroudsburg First Ward, East Stroudsburg Second Ward, East Stroudsburg Third Ward, East Stroudsburg Fourth Ward, East Stroudsburg Fifth Ward, East Stroudsburg Sixth Ward, Middle Smithfield Eastern, Middle Smithfield Western, Price, Smithfield One, Smithfield Two, Smithfield Three and Smithfield Four. The seats are at-large, meaning voters in all precincts across the district determine who fills all the seats, as opposed to school directors being elected by regions within the district.
