OWEGO, N.Y. (AP) A New York State Police sergeant rescued a man stranded for hours in a car covered by nearly 4 feet of snow thrown by a plow during this week’s storm, authorities said.
The 58-year-old Candor man drove off the road and got plowed in by a truck, authorities said. He made several 911 calls and was stranded more than 10 hours without heat.
Buried Under Snow in a Car for 10 Hours. Who Would Come to the Rescue?

It was around midnight Thursday, and the snow in upstate Owego, N.Y., was falling at what officials estimated was a rate of four inches an hour. By the time it stopped, there would be 40 inches on the ground.
With the storm swirling around him, Kevin Kresen was in his car about 15 miles from home when, he said, a belt in his engine came loose, knocking out the power steering and forcing him off the road into a ditch.

A Southern Tier man was rescued by a State Police trooper Thursday after he was stranded in his car for 10 hours without any heat.
State Police said Sgt. Jason Cawley responded to 911 calls from a man who had called Tioga County authorities and had run off the road and needed assistance.
But law enforcement in the area had not located the driver as more than 40 inches of snow crippled the Binghamton area.
Cawley continued the search Thursday and drove to the section of State Route 17C in the town of Owego, in the Campville area, where the reports appeared to be coming from.
