Elena. Whats the alternative universe that you want to create . So tom and paul are making a case that we have a lot of interests, may not like everything that russia does, but we have to talk to them and get done what we can and tom had a list of things which if those are on your list to do, russia could play a role. Whats the alternative . Well, the alternative is that we have some sort of tougher policy towards russia. There have to be consequences for what it has done on the International Order for its invasion of sovereign country, its mass murder of civilians in syria. That tougher policy will be a mix of. Includes ramping up sanctions which we have in place. Reinvesting in our relationship with our allies. Standing up to russias human rights abuses, and of course, investigating russias best export to the west. Which is corruption. Russia needs to clean up its own act. And its not about telling them what to do, its our way or the highway, that is absolutely not what this is. But
And it wasnt that big a deal, but it was a big deal and it led to even further big deals because in the aftermath of watergate we had the Rockefeller Commission and the Church Committee investigations that showed how deeply riddled the u. S. Government was with this kind of abuse of power. But watergate itself was much more than one burglary. That was actually the third burglary they had pulled off, and as repercussions you had the president resigning. At the same time you had the Vice President resigning. You had two attorney generals resigning. All told, 12 corporations and i think 48 individuals pled guilty and maybe 2 dozen men went to jail. How significant was the resignation of spear spiro agnew that led to the appointment of gerald ford. I think its significant in itself. But i think theres a good chance that nixon would not have been impeached if he had agnew as insurance. There was really no great payoff for the democrats to get rid of nixon in order just to get agnew. A weake
Enough to write a vast symphonic work, to inspire a magnificent novel and bring down a great emperor. On this day of battle more russians died than were killed or would die of illness in the whole of the war of 1812 on all sides. This really was a titanic clash of two emporers and two vast armies numbering close on 200,000 men each. The war of 1812 would not be fought by armies of 200,000 men. In fact, it wouldnt be fought by 200,000 men all told. As 1813 began James Madison knew that napoleon had lost. His army was in full retreat. Indeed, it was in complete collapse. He had taken his country to war on the premise the french would win. They had lost. Now what was going to happen . This also took the pressure off brittain and it released naval reinforcements from the british fleet in the baltic which had been keeping it open for trade the previous five years. Those ships and key personnel were moved across to the north american station. The british picked out the right ships and the ri

Indeed less dangerous to their interests. The continental system, not this continent but the european continent, was beginning to destroy the economies of other european states. Napoleon protected france from the economic war by asset stripping all of the conquered territories. First country to rebel would be russia, napoleons only serious ally, and a Major Trading nation with a big export trade geared towards supplying the british market. Inside the continental system from 1807 to 1811 russia saw their economy collapse. Being part of napoleons team was very bad for your business. In 1811 the czar of russia, alexander, realized that if he carried on like this his country would be bankrupt and he would follow his father to an early grave. The last time russia had made war on brittain the czar was murdered and they changed the government. Basically most of the landowners in russia relied on selling goods to the british to pay their bills. So the czar decided that bankruptcy and debt was
