The poll results on Thursday will decide the future of several leaders in four states where the BJP is in power and also test whether its poll pitch of a “double-engine” government made any impact there as well as in Punjab where it contested as a senior partner for the first time.
In the seventh phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, voting is proposed in 54 constituencies across nine districts Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Bhadohi and Varanasi. Caste and smaller outfits are expected to decide the winner in the last phase of polling in 54 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and the performance the BJP and Samajwadi Party, which have allied with such outfits, will decide who walks away with more seats.
