primetime when 20 million people were watching, that would have been quite compelling. certainly, the first hearing had that gripping video that was never-before-seen footage of the violence. you re right in the case that yesterday actually made more of the argument toward the big lie. what do you think the committee needs to do next? keep laying out their case. i think that many people may be persuadable on this topic. the more you put out the evidence, i think there was a perception a lot of people inside the white house agreed with donald trump. in fact, almost nobody did. it shows the entire basis of what happened on that day and every day since was manufactured by him and rudy giuliani and denied by many. here is why it really matters. people are like, whatever, we already knew a lot of this. here s why it matters, you and i probably believe that donald trump runs again. if he runs again in this climate, it is a very decent chance that he could win again. if he wins again, he
he did not. trump rejected his advice to not declare victory on election night and instead decided to listen to former new york city mayor rudy giuliani. there was suggestion by i believe it was rudy giuliani to go and declare victory and say that we won it outright. was there anyone in the conversation who in your observation had had too much to drink? rudy giuliani. the mayor was definitely intoxicated but i did not know his level of intoxication when he spoke with the president, for example. in a statement to nbc news, an attorney general for giuliani denies that he was intoxicated on election night. and writes, rudy suggests that you talk to other people who were there. joining us now, nbc news justice reporter ryan riley. ryan, we could just talk all morning about the possibility of an inebriated rudy giuliani but we can set that aside.

that s very clear. i d remind people that the washington post had a very interesting investigation that, for the first three years of his presidency, basically until covid came, he spent one-third of his time not in the white house but visiting trump branded properties. promoting the trump brand as a continuity. indeed, what s come out yesterday when representatives said the big lie was a rip-off, funneling money to trump hotel chains. the big lie and election denial was an efficient method of trump raising money and fleecing his followers. certainly, we all know the hearings come as former president trump considers another run in 2024. i think democracy in great peril if he were able to push past this moment and run successfully
