Unfulfilled pledges: Tribesmen in Janikhel refuse to bury slain elder

Peshawar June 2, 2021 BANNU: The tribesmen here on Tuesday refused to bury the body of an elder, who was shot dead on Monday, and placed the corpse outside the Janikhel Police Station as a mark of protest. Unidentified gunmen killed an elder Malik Naseeb in Janikhel area in Bannu on Monday. The killing triggered protest from the local people. They complained that the government did not honour the agreement reached with them after the killing of the four teenagers. They said that the chief minister had signed the agreement and they had been assured that efforts would be made to end bloodshed in Janikhel, but they said that the pledges remained largely unfulfilled as the target killings were still taking place.

Alleged dishonouring of agreement by govt: Elders boycott IGP visit to Janikhel

Peshawar April 14, 2021 BANNU: The elders of Janikhel tribe boycotted a function held here on Tuesday to inaugurate a police station in the area by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Sanaullah Abbasi. Lodging the protest, Malik Moeez said that the IGP had invited them during his visit to Bannu and inauguration of Janikhel Police Station but they declined to meet him or attend the inaugural event. He said that they had imposed a fine of Rs5 million if any person hailing from the Janikhel tribe met the IGP or attended the function. The elder said that it looked strange to inaugurate a police station in Janikhel established in 2012.
