NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has created a separate cell in the Commission for the newly formed union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to deal with issues of women in the region.
Followed by NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma’s visit to the union territories, it was observed that the issues related to women in these regions need special attention.
The Commission decided to set up a separate cell for these regions after the Chairperson’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the month of February where she had held interactive sessions with NGOs, One Stop Centres for Women, and other officials in the union territory to take stock of problems faced by women.

(MENAFN - Kashmir Observer) SRINAGAR- To listen to the complaints of the women of Kashmir Valley, who have been victims of domestic violence, a first ever Mahila Jan Sunwai Programme was held at Banquet Hall here today.
The proceedings of the Jan Sunwai programme were conducted under the chairmanship of Chairperson National Commission for Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma. Counselor, NCW was also present on the occasion.
The programme was organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with the State Resource Centre for Women, Department of Social Welfare J & K.
During the Sunwai, as many as 85 cases pertaining to different complaints filed by women of different parts of Kashmir division were heard by the Chairperson NCW. On the occasion, 12 accused were presented in person before the Chairperson during Jansunwai on the spot to mitigate the cases, while rest of cases were taken up with the concerned authorities for their time bound disposal.

The Jan Sunwai programme was held under the chairmanship of Chairperson NCW, Rekha Sharma.
During the Sunwai programme, complainants of 40 cases related to women from all sections of the society were present. The Chairperson NCW disposed off 07 cases on the spot among the 20 cases taken up by the Commission during the programme.
Speaking on the ocassion, Chairperson NCW, Rekha Sharma said that these initiatives felicitate effective disposal of complaints received by NCW and also help in collecting first hand information about the problems faced by women in various parts of the country.
