Separate NCW cells for women of J&K, Ladakh
Jammu Tawi, April 5: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has made separate cells for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh to tackle women issues. Women can now approach the NCW cell in Delhi with their complaints.
Since the bifurcation of J&K in 2019, state commissions were discontinued.
After NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma visited the Union territories, it was noticed that extra attention needs to be given to the issues of women like violence, financial crisis et cetera, in the region.
“After my visit to the Union territories and the ‘Jan Sunwai’ [meeting for discussing public complaints] conducted by the Commission, we observed that the problems of women in these regions need special attention. Therefore, NCW has constituted a special cell for both the UTs in the Commission [in Delhi]. NCW, through its concentrated efforts, aim to provide quick redressal to these women and to empower them,” she said.
