The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh until July 22 and moderate showers in Delhi on Wednesday.
The Yamuna in Delhi crossed the danger mark again with the river flowing at 205.48 metres due to fresh rainfall in neighbouring states. This came hours after the Yamuna was flowing below the danger level of 205.33 metres for the first time in a week after torrential rainfall and release of water from Hathnikund barrage in Haryana created a flood-like situation in parts of the city.
Meanwhile, rain alerts have been issued in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as spells of rainfall continued in the two states. Several parts of northern India were hit by heavy rainfall earlier this month, triggering flash floods and causing damage to infrastructure. Over 100 people have died in rain and flood-related incidents so far. Videos of cars being washed away in swollen rivers and buildings crashing down like a pack of cards went viral on social media.
