And exhibits to learn about the life of escaped slave, abolitionist, civil war spy and suffragist Harriet Tubman. Welcome to Harriet Tubman underground state park. My name is ranger crenshaw. She was born three miles east of here in the town of madison and she spent time in this area as well as in bucktown a few miles west of here. It was in this area of Dorchester County she learned the skills that were vital to make her a successful conductor of the underground railroad such as reading the landscape, reading the stars, foraging for food, walking outdoors and being comfortable by herself. This building is lined in cedar which is a reference to her time in the timber fields with her father. The last three buildings are lined in zinc and the idea is that over time it will patina and weather like copper and it will begin to fade and the idea is that after you visit our come through our Visitor Center your ignorance about Harriet Tubmans life and the underground railroad will fade as well

The traveling exhibit created in conjunction with the White House Historical association was brought to the Hoover Library by cspan in partnership with media com. Curator marcus shows us the additional objects the museum borrowed to accompany each of the 44 portraits. Today were at the Hebert Hoover president ial library in west branch, iowa.
