A ceremony that began with a Shinto blessing signaled the completion of a combined heat and power plant designed to give Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo energy independence in the event of a crisis.
The plant, which took more than two years to build, replaces a collection of diesel generators on the Yokota Air Base. It also uses less energy to create a power supply that is more resilient to outside threats.
