What began as a classroom conversation has evolved into a reality that will help Burlington High School students for years to come.
The therapeutic learning community classroom, which opened to students for the first time Monday, offers a safe haven for students struggling with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues can go when they need a break from their regular classrooms.
Inside the TLC classroom, located directly across from the office, students find a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere where they can learn coping mechanisms and decompress. Basically, it s like a safe space, said 19-year-old Alicia Stephenson, a senior at the school. Say I was having an anxiety attack during class, I would be able to come here and be able to get it calmed down. In class, I guess it would probably worsen.
