As North Carolina s best high school cross country runners and teams gather to compete for the state s top prizes in cross country on Friday and Saturday at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, their successes reflect a commitment to succeed together amid a global pandemic that has turned their season upside down.
It s the end of January, a time when most high school runners find themselves running laps on the track indoors. Yet due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic that has riddled the nation, North Carolina distance runners instead find themselves racing at 5,000-meters in the dirt and mud during the cold winter months.
âMy client says he didnât expect she would fly backwards on the floor but he accepted that she did,â Defence solicitor Peter Clark, of Strutynski Law, said.
He said Blizzard âreacted very very badlyâ to a third party âjumping in with their five centsâ.
However Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen, in reading over the facts, said the scenario was a little different.
âLetâs sort of put this in perspective,â Mr Aberdeen said.
The court heard the woman alleged she told Blizzard, âyou need to have some respect, stop pushing your mother aroundâ.
âTo which (Blizzard) replies âyou f ing old c , Iâm sick of you having contact with my mother, Iâll kill you, youâre nothing but a piece of f ing sh t, now f off you old sl t,â Mr Aderbeen read from the police statement.
