Those were the takeaways from the first of a series of presentations hosted by the Augusta Public Schools, as the district looks toward planning for its future schools and the possible renovation of Hussey Elementary School. Tuesday night’s presentation focused on “Trends in School Design” and was put on by CHA Architecture.

Augusta schools should have more in-person learning Letter Share I would like to describe my experiences in engaging with the Augusta school board, Superintendent James Anastasio and Mayor David Rollins as it relates to advocating for more in-person learning in Augusta schools (“Augusta school board opts to keep hybrid-learning model for rest of the school year,” April 8). I wrote frequently with varying levels of emotion to the appropriate people in my ward and to officials involved with making decisions for schooling in our town. In most circumstances, I have been treated with kindness, which is appreciated. I believe that the pandemic is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. I had hopes for more in-person learning this school year. Here are my thoughts:

Updated April 8 Augusta school board opts to keep hybrid-learning model for rest of the school year After studying what it would take to return students to in-person learning five days a week, Augusta officials decided it wasn t feasible to change the schedule for the last 40 days of the school year. Share AUGUSTA Students in the city’s schools will keep learning with a hybrid model for the rest of the year. That was the decision made by the Augusta school board of directors Wednesday night, after hearing presentations from school officials about various scenarios that would allow students to return to school for in-person learning five days a week.

Augusta public schools present proposed 2021-2022 budget, with no tax increase, to city councilors While the city school department includes a 0.35% spending increase, no additional taxes will be required to meet the revenue needs for next school year s budget. Share AUGUSTA City officials heard what the school department had planned for spending for next year and applauded them for crafting a 2021-2022 budget that included no tax increase. School Board Chairperson Amanda Olson said the budget, approved unanimously by the board in March, is the “smoothest” she has seen in her time on the school board. Councilors did not recommend any cuts to the $33.43 million budget, a 0.35% increase in spending from the current fiscal year.
