For Jamaal Willis, the road leading up to finding out whether he’d been admitted into the college of his choice was an uncertain one.
Although the Barstow High School senior had a 4.4 GPA and a plethora of extracurricular activities under his belt, he said Harvard University had given him no indication whether he’d actually get in.
The school had conducted some pre-interviews with him and a high school counselor but nothing was set in stone.
“It was just a lot of hesitancy and me trying to manifest an acceptance every day, so it was a tumultuous ride,” Willis, a Jamaican-American immigrant, said in an interview Saturday.
