Covid-19: Malaysia records 3,120 new cases; daily deaths rise to two-month high of 23 Syafiqah Salim © Provided by The Edge KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Malaysia reported 3,120 new Covid-19 infections today, pushing the number of active cases in the country to 31,516. This is the third straight day that active cases have stayed above the 30,000 mark, and they include 338 patients in intensive care units, and 181 on ventilator support, the Ministry of Health said. The ministry announced 23 deaths today, the highest in two months and raising the Covid-19 death toll to 1,574. The highest daily deaths recorded so far was 25, on Feb 18. Six deaths each were reported in Kelantan and Selangor, four in Sarawak, two in Johor, two in Sabah and one each in Kedah, Perak and Melaka. All the deceased were Malaysians and they were aged between 37 and 85 years.

The number of precious intensive care beds used by Covid-19 patients reached a record high of 314 today with 122 people requiring ventilators to breathe. Leading indicators: Patients in ICU: 314 ↑ (34 more than the previous day, new record) Intubated patients: 122 ↑ (11 more than the previous day, new record) Deaths: 7 While the Klang Valley had the most number of new cases (41.6 percent), Johor was the state with the most number of cases followed by Sabah.
