Covid-19 weekly round-up: Active cases decline, recovery rate exceeds 90 percent

LUMPUR: Covid-19 transmissions have been under control over the week (Feb 27-March 4), with daily new cases falling below 2,500 and the recovery rate reaching 92 percent.
Over the 24-hour period up to noon yesterday, 2,063 new infections were recorded nationwide while 2,922 patients recovered. Earlier this week for three days in a row from March 1 to 3, daily new cases had dipped to below 2,000, that is, 1,828 (March 1), 1,555 (March 2) and 1,745 (March 3).

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,745 new Covid-19 cases amidst seven more deaths.
Locals continue to comprise the majority of new cases (59.5 percent), with most infections detected in the Klang Valley followed by Johor and Sarawak.
Active cases: 24,025
Intubated: 95
Active cases are still on a downtrend as recoveries continue to outpace new cases. There are no discernable trends in terms of those needing intensive care.
Almost 80 percent of new cases in Selangor were detected through existing clusters or contact tracing amidst the normalisation of contact tracing efforts.
Deaths
Two deaths were reported in Kuala Lumpur. There was one each reported in Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, Johor and Kelantan.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (
pic) said the outbreak has been named the ‘Kampung Gedang cluster’ with the infections originating from a village in Alor Gajah.
“This cluster has been categorised as a community outbreak and infections have been detected in several districts in Melaka, Selangor and Johor.
“It is related to a funeral on Feb 14. The index case is a 61-year-old woman from Kampung Gedang, who had developed symptoms before testing positive on Feb 25, said Dr Noor Hisham.
“About 86 individuals including family and social contacts of the woman were tested, in which 34 more people were found to be Covid-19 positive, ” he added in his daily Covid-19 press updates.
