FSU and UCLA have faced off just once before, when the Seminoles beat the Bruins 4-1 in an elimination game of the 2012 College World Series.
Florida State tied an NCAA record by reaching the NCAA Tournament for the 44th consecutive season this year. The Seminoles’ 59 all-time tournament appearances are second, behind Texas’s 61.

CHARLOTTE – Florida State (33-23) dropped the second pool play game in the ACC Tournament 5-3 to 5-seed Notre Dame (34-13) Thursday, finishing the Seminoles’ run in the conference tournament.
Notre Dame scored all five runs via three home runs against starter Parker Messick (6-5).
Messick did strike out four batters and now has 140 for the year, 10th-most in a season for a Seminole.
After a solo home run gave the Irish the lead, FSU responded with a Colton Vincent single that plated Alex Toral in the third inning.
Down 3-1 in the fourth, FSU threated with the bases loaded and no outs, but John Michael Bertrand (8-2) struck out two batters and forced a flyout to keep FSU off the board.
Trailing 5-1 in the ninth, FSU loaded the bases on a Brett Roberts’ double and two hit batters before Brock Mathis pinch hit and lined a two-run single off the left field wall. Tyler Martin followed with a high fly ball that ended the game at the warning track.

CHARLOTTE – First-team All-ACC pitcher Parker Messick is one of three Seminoles named to the All-ACC teams, the league announced on Packer & Durham Monday morning.
Bryce Hubbart is a second team pitcher, while outfielder Jaime Ferrer was named to the All-Freshman team.
Messick, from Plant City, Florida, was a four-time ACC Pitcher of the Week, finishing the year with a 6-4 record and 3.05 ERA, with 136 strikeouts and 15 walks in 88.2 innings pitched. Messick ranks second in the country in strikeouts, fifth in strikeouts per nine innings, eighth in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 13th in WHIP. He was the best in the ACC in all four categories.
Messick had a stretch of 30.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run at Dick Howser Stadium, a run that included games against No. 7 TCU, No. 9 Louisville and No. 16 Notre Dame. He was the starting pitcher for three of FSU’s four shutout wins – against TCU, Louisville and Samford.
