TALLAHASSEE – Sophomore left-handed pitcher Parker Messick tied a career-high Friday, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out 11, but No. 5 Florida State (16-9, 6-4 ACC) fell 2-0 in extra innings to No. 16 Notre Dame (14-5, 3-4).

Messick and Irish starter John Michael Bertrand – who struck out 12 FSU hitters and allowed four hits in 7.2 innings – staged a classic pitcher’s duel that was won on Ryan Cole’s two-run home run in the 12th inning.
The Irish bullpen combined for 4.1 innings pitched with no hits allowed and six strikeouts. Alex Rao (1-0) earned the win by pitching the final 1.2 innings.
Jonah Scolaro (1-2) suffered the loss when Cole hit the game-winning home run on a two-out, two-strike pitch in the 12th.

TALLAHASSEE – No. 5 Florida State (16-8, 6-3 ACC) hosts No. 16 Notre Dame (13-5, 2-4) this weekend for a three-game series at Dick Howser Stadium. Friday’s game is at 7:00 p.m., followed by Saturday at 2:00 and Sunday at 1:00.

JACKSONVILLE – No. 5 Florida State (16-8) got three hits from Logan Lacey and Brett Roberts reached all four times, but the Seminoles fell 6-3 to No. 14 Florida (18-7) Tuesday night at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville. 2022 Baseball Media Center Lacey’s three hits were a season high, and Roberts had a hand in all three FSU runs – scoring in the second and fourth innings and plating Lacey on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Lacey would have had a fourth hit but Florida left fielder Wyatt Langford robbed a three-run home run in the third inning. The Seminoles tied the game when Reese Albert drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning, but the Gators scored the deciding runs in the bottom of the fifth against Carson Montgomery (3-1). TALLAHASSEE – No. 7 Florida State (16-7, 6-3 ACC) fell 11-2 Sunday afternoon to Duke (12-12, 3-6) at Dick Howser Stadium. Despite the Sunday loss, FSU won the series, the Noles sixth straight to start the season.

Ross Dunn (1-1) struggled on the mound for Florida State, lasting just 1.2 innings. The Seminole bullpen surrendered six runs over the next 7.1 innings.
Reese Albert singled in the first inning for FSU and leads Florida State with a .409 average on the season. Albert also drew two of FSU’s three walks and is reaching base at a .481 clip this year.
Billy Seidl (2-1) allowed just two hits and two walks in 6.0 innings for the Blue Devils. Duke’s 5-6-7 hitters each hit a home run, including Alex Stone’s third of the weekend.
Jaime Ferrer hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning off John Natoli to end the shutout. Ferrer has five home runs on the season.

Bryce Hubbart (5-1) earned his fifth win of the season with seven innings pitched against the Blue Devils. Davis Hare entered in relief and struck out the final Duke batter with two runners on base to secure the victory.
With a home run in the second to open the scoring and a sacrifice fly in the third, Roberts earned a season-high three RBI. It was Roberts’ third home run of the year and increased the team’s streak to 11 consecutive games with a home run, the longest since at least 2015.
