The Kirksville baseball team battled Moberly in a pitchers’ duel on Thursday with the teams heading into extra innings tied 0-0. But something had to give, and the Spartans pushed across five runs in the top of the eighth to beat the Tigers for the second time this season. Moberly beat Kirksville 1-0 back on March 27. The Tigers are now 6-3 on the season while the Spartans improved to 7-2.
It’s a somewhat familiar opponent for the Blair Oaks Falcons, but the stakes are much higher this time around. After playing the Moberly Spartans a total of 12 times in the regular season, the two teams will meet for the first time in the postseason tonight at the Falcon Athletic Complex. Kickoff for the Class 3 District 4 Tournament championship is at 7 p.m. The two teams have not faced each other since the 2015 season opener, which the Falcons won 42-18. Ted LePage has faced the Spartans twice during his first head-coaching stint at Blair Oaks, winning 40-0 in 2004 and 35-9 in 2005 against Moberly in a pair of Week 4 matchups.
