Transport Secretary Grant Shapps called Jaguar’s decision a “huge step for British car manufacturing”.
Under the plans, all Jaguar and Land Rover models will be offered with an electric powertrain by the end of the decade.

Land Rover will also launch six EV cars within the next five years with the first set to hit forecourts in 2024.
“The Reimagine strategy allows us to enhance and celebrate that uniqueness like never before.
“Together, we can design an even more sustainable and positive impact on the world around us.”
As part of the radical update, Jaguar has confirmed it will not be continuing production on the much anticipated electric XJ.
In a statement, Jaguar said the new car “does not fit” with the new vision of the company which is likely to have a focus on luxury high-end vehicles.

They said: “Following a thorough technology review against the exponential change in the automotive industry, we concluded that the planned XJ replacement does not fit with our vision for a reimaged Jaguar brand.

New Delhi: Luxury automobile manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover announced its new global strategy titled Reimagine to become a more environmentally sustainable brand.
Accordingly, the plan envisages the electrification of both Land Rover and Jaguar brands on separate architectures with two clear, unique personalities . In the next five years, Land Rover will welcome six pure electric variants as it continues to be the world leader of luxury SUVs through its three families of Range Rover, Discovery and Defender. The first all-electric variant will arrive in 2024, the company said in a statement.
