FORT LEE A raging fire tore through a five-story apartment building on Hudson Terrace Saturday, turning dozens of people out in the street as firefighters battled to save the structure.
At least one person was rescued from the building and police said they were still trying to account for all residents as of 7 p.m., more than three hours after the fire started. Joel Mendoza, who identified himself as the building superintendent, said he believed everyone in the co-op s 36 apartments had made it out safely.
The blaze snarled traffic and blanketed the area with thick smoke that wafted toward the Hudson River, as flames billowed out of the charred building. Fire departments from Edgewater, Englewood, Cliffside Park, Teaneck and other towns were called in to assist.
