Less than a year after taking the citizenship oath in September 2022, Branden Spence took an oath on Wednesday to protect and serve as a Pennington County Sheriff s deputy.

(Provided photo â Brooklyn Mayberry) LAKE PLACID The Lake Placid Institute announced the winners of its annual student photography contest. “24 Hours: A Photographic Interpretation of Life in the Adirondacks” is open to all high school students living or studying in the Adirondack region. Submissions may be color or black-and-white, and must be shot within the Adirondacks, with no restrictions on subject matter. This year, the Institute received 111 submissions from 60 students from 11 schools. Brooklyn Mayberry (grade 12, Lake Placid High School) received first place for his photo entitled “My Brother.”
