Scene, a short time ago maybe ten to 15 minutes ago a very heavy Police Presence here in wilmington. People we have spoken to in the area say this park is usually relatively quiet but not exactly the the place they would go to, necessarily at night, they wouldnt necessarily bring their children here at night but again, that is just the opinion of a few people we have talk to. If it wasnt for some of the police tape we see just in the area still hanging around some trees would you not know that there was a Police Presence here but there was and that investigation remains active in wilmington. Officers name but we do know that he is a 17year member of the force. Hes a father of two children and a husband. And this by the way, was the second time that he was shot on the job. Meggen was nine months pregnant when she was hit by bullets last september in frankford. Both a mother and baby died. Megans mother said she waited long enough for justice. Suspicious. A shark scare this morning. The beach was evacuated after a possible sighting. Lifeguards spotted a possible shark in oyster bay around noon. Close to 2,000 people were on the beach at the time. Lifeguards blew their whistles everybody was evacuated into the sand. The shark is believed to be about five feet long. Police using a helicopter to spot it. Believe it or not, its just two months away until the pope arrives in philadelphia. Randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. Even though theres no state budget parts of the legislature are scheduled to return from summer break in late september. We wanted to know whats being done in the meantime. One lawmaker told nbc 10 that active discussions are still going on even while the legislation is not in session. The last 12 years, only two other pennsylvania budgets have taken longer to get passed. In 2009 the impasse lasted 101 days. It took 176 days in 2003. That year the School District said they came dangerously close to running out of money. Speaking of schools, new at 5 00, a former pto president arrested accused of stealing money that was supposed to help kids. Abington Township Police say she stole nearly 20,000 from the rydell Parent Teacher elementary association. She spent money on everything from groceries to international travel. Outside a bar in camden. A judge sentenced him to 70 years in prison today. A jury convicted him back in may. He shot and killed Timothy Loper in december of 2013. Loper, a marine, served in afghanistan. He was trying to break up a fight outside a bar on 2nd and spruce when he was killed. His father was in the courtroom today. He says the sentencing does bring some closure. Justice was served for the murder act but the pain is not going away. We still feel the pain. Of losing my son. He will not be eligible for parole for 50 years. We have new information since 5 00 on this water main break in east falls. A 12inch main broke this afternoon on scotts lane. Water is spewing on to the street from several different areas and the Shopping Plaza there is without water again. No damage inside. Workers in the Philadelphia Water Department are in the area trying to repair it. They dont have an idea on how long its going to take them to fix this.
